((ROFL I JUST SAW THAT TOO XD NICE ONE SISTER))
---

"Very well..." The engineer rolled up the newest blueprint so it could be tucked into the satchel by his side. "This one you are about to hear, only Ulysses himself, me, and no one else knew, before today." Cristobal glanced at the door of the cabin, ensuring that his student wasn't about to emerge any time soon, then turned back.

"When Ulysses was still Altair," He begun with a tone far more serious than his previous ones, "when he still journeyed around the Spiral correcting what had been wronged, he came across a mission that would ultimately change the life of everyone in the Order, as well as part of Ulysses himself.

This mission was given to him by a rich couple who had moved to Skull Island from Polaris to escape Napoleguin, which basically asked of him to take out this pirate lord who had been plotting to loot their home. Ulysses did just so, however, when he returned, he found that the pirate lord's followers had already set the couple's house aflame, and killed them both, except their young baby son.

Now, note that this was before his mental downfall, before he became merciless... So you may have guessed, Ulysses charged into the still burning building, and pulled the baby out of danger, taking him back to the Headquarters in Krokotopia. He raised the boy to be an Assassin, like he was his own, training him with the art of combat by the blades.

What Ulysses couldn't predict was that being someone who was adopted into the Order, and not by being recruited or born into it, this boy would ultimately become the target of ridicue and hate by the other young recruits once he grew up, targeted for that, and for the fact he was Ulysses' personal apprentice, since many of them had wished to approach him and become his student for several years already.

The boy thought he could deal with it without Ulysses' help... How wrong had he been; one day, when Ulysses was absent and away on one of his solo missions, he was attacked by a band of four angry recruits and left to die in a burning building.

Ulysses returned just in time to rescue him from the fire, but the damage to his appearance had already been done, even after my best attempts to undo them... From then on, the boy was never himself again; his trust in other Assassins, other humans had been destroyed, leaving him with no trust in anyone else, except for Ulysses himself, whom he had always regarded as his father... This boy, now a young man, is none other than Cahin Havos himself."

((Bwahahha you're welcome! >D))
------

Hannah got the distinct impression when Cristobal looked around, as if to make sure nobody else was listening, that this was a story Ulysses did not necessarily want a lot of people knowing.   The engineer seemed a bit more paranoid than before when it came to discussing this, but before she could try and stop him if it really was something they shouldn't be throwing about casually like this, he started and she fell silent.   Hopefully, the Admiral would either never find out about this one, or not mind if he did become aware of what more she was soon to find out.

This one was going to be just as serious as when he had explained what had driven Ulysses to the wickedness he was capable of showing now though, she could tell that much from the tone of his voice.   So she braced herself, settling in for what she anticipated would be either a disturbing or disheartening story.   Maybe even both.

She was right, as he continued on.  It was important for her to have listened though, as it answered a question that had been floating around the back of her mind for quite some time- Cahin's story.   So, he and Ulysses weren't actually related at all and Septimus was more or less the young man's savior in many ways.  Numerous times, from what she was hearing.  Now she felt at least a little bit bad for some of the dark thoughts that had drifted through her mind when the two of them had been alone and she had been worried he would have called for his 'father' to come in and kill her.   Cahin had threatened to kill her numerous times himself in that demented, childish tone of his so it wasn't quite as bad as she would have felt had he not done so...but it was still enough.

Tragedy, it seemed, ran between the two of them.   It was little wonder in her mind then, why Cahin clung to Ulysses like his little shadow and admired him in ways others, herself included, did not find normal.  Knowing that they were not related though helped ease her mind about the situation at least a little bit.   Not entirely, but enough.

When Cristobal had finished, she cringed at what she was imagining.  Some people could be so...cruel.  It made a lot of sense now why Cahin was as deranged as he was- whatever he had been like before had likely been lost to the second fire he had been in, when those four angry recruits had attempted to kill him out of such spiteful emotions as jealousy.     She remembered what she had seen of him in the cabin, those horrific burns....It was truly a miracle he was alive,  and by Ulysses's intervention.   No wonder he was so...obsessed with him.

"...I saw some of the burn marks on his skin.  They were, as horrible as you say.   I had no idea that je-Cahin, had gone through so much as well.  I can see why he is..well, the way he is.  That doesn't make it any less unnerving, but at least I know where that comes from too.  The spiral certainly hasn't been kind to the two of them in the past, has it?  Hopefully their lot in life will remain as happy for them as it seems now."

She hoped it would be kinder to her as well, but that didn't need to be vocalized, not when she was hearing sordid tales of other people's pasts.

"..Are you sure it's safe for me to know all this, though?  It seems...intrusive.  Why is it you are willing to tell me so much, when nobody else is?"

Everything she was hearing was a lot to take in, honestly.  There was so much she had to sort through and adjust her feelings on, as well as figure out what she felt about them.    Still, it was all valuable, riveting information just the same.   And she did wonder why Cristobal was in such giving moods with her, on these sorts of things.

((And LOL shortest post EVER))
----

The Assassin was silent for a moment, his eyes locked on the empty parchment sheet he had spread out before him on the paper. "I thought you deserve to know... After all this you just went through." Cristobal finally said, "and because I knew your father." He wasn't kidding about that, because when he was younger, he was friends with Hannah's father Viktor, only parting ways with him when Cristobal was recruited into the Valentinus Ordo ab Sicarii.

Just as he opened his mouth to say more, Sentus Optimus announced, "We are approaching Aragon Skyway." Those words brought a small smile to the Assassin engineer's face: he had lived in Valencia most of his life, only moving to the Headquarters of the Order at the age of 21, when he reached the rank of Assassin Master.

"I knew him since I was an 11 year old."Cristobal finally spoke again, "we were friends... Until I was recruited into the Assassin Order by Lorenzo de Medici, that was when we parted ways, maintaining only minimal communication, then completely losing it when I was placed in charge of my second student, whom you know... Ulysses."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Thu May 01, 2014 6:51 pm

((Oh it's not THAT short at all! XD I don't even cur about length, anyway. ))
------

Of all the things she had expected to hear, that certainly hadn't been any of them. Those simple words made her eyes widen more than they ever had before. Her father had spoken before of old friends he had lost contact with whom he had sometimes wished he could have caught up with, but she never would have thought him in connection with a man like Cristobal. He had never spoken of having ever been friends with somebody from an assassin's guild, which he had obviously known Cristobal was even when their communication had only been minimal.

"You...you knew my father?"

It was a radical concept that almost required her to sit down to think about it, with how winded she felt hearing that in addition to everything else.

Why hadn't her father mentioned him in more than passing? Why had he kept the nature of Cristobal and the job he had taken upon secret from her and her mother both? Maybe he had thought he was protecting them in some way, but still...it didn't make much sense to her. At least there was some of it in the engineer's generosity though, a favor on her father's behalf for 'old time's sake', as well as what she had gone through.

Her focus wavered only slightly when Sentus announced that they were swiftly approaching home, and she could see the swirling mass of a stormgate that would lead them straight to Aragon skyway. They were almost home...a thought both comforting and distressing all at once.

Her mind eagerly latched on to what Cristobal had to say next, finding herself even more baffled when the engineer spoke of her father as a childhood friend. She wondered if something had happened between them, or if they had simply drifted apart when their own lives had taken over and sent them in different directions. Her father taking care of and training her, while Cristobal did much the same with Ulysses.

"..You must be that one friend he spoke so fondly of his misadventures with...but rarely gave us many more details than that.."

Come to think of it, perhaps Viktor had been trying to protect Cristobal more than them, rarely giving them many details on his name, appearance, or where he had known that one friend she had heard of she was starting to suspect was him now that she was putting the pieces together. Secrecy was one of the most important things for assassins and those who worked with them, after all.

Hannah's expression quickly took on a pained turned however, the more she thought about her father.

"Perhaps though it is for the best fate took you in different directions. Since you knew my father at his prime...seeing what he has been reduced to now, thanks to pirates, would be...too painful. Depressing."

It certainly was for her and her mother, the very reason she had been thrust into the positions she often found herself in out of loyalty to him and desperation to 'earn' the best treatment for his status she could manage. Her throat felt tight as she mentioned it, she could even feel the little pricks of teardrops threatening to form in the corners of her eyes the more she brought what had happened to him to mind.

..But that was weak here, perhaps. Less so in front of this man, as she had seen him shed tears over his fallen brethren but..she had to be strong for her father as well. Viktor could not anymore and her mother had never been one for heavy fighting. They depended on her for strength, now, so she couldn't afford to break down in any way. No matter how painful it was.

"I am...sorry to hear it did, though. From the stories my father told, it sounded like you two had a lot of fun together. But, the both of you had your hands full I guess- him with me, you with Ulysses. It's strange, these little parallels....What a small spiral this is."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Ulysses Septimus Thu May 01, 2014 8:07 pm

((Okay good, thank you sister XD here is a long one, well as long as I could manage LOL and Seppy flashing his REFINED MILITARY manner and uniform: gotta look good when you are going to meet the Supreme Commander, right?))
----

"Yes,"Cristobal confirmed, "we even get in trouble together as kids... And maybe you are right, from what little I've heard of him..." He couldn't say any more, for even to him the memories were too much...

The Imperial Interceptor sailed through the stormgate with a loud blast of wind sweeping its deck. Upon entering the swirling purple skyway, Sentus snapped off a command in Latin, ordering the other Armada troopers to put on full sails and head right for the second stormgate that would lead them back to Valencia.

Ah, Valencia, home of the Armada and true jewel of the Spiral. It was as though Ulysses knew that they were home, for he stepped out of the cabin, clad in his Armada admiral's uniform with all its medals and decals, Cahin right at his heels like a smiling, devilish shadow. By then, he had organized himself up for the meeting with the elites: he had donned a colombina styled half mask that bore a golden colored gear symbol on each of its temples, and another one on the forehead, gold plating the edges of the mask itself, and corners of the eye sockets. His tricorne was not the simple black one he had worn during the battle, this one had a large, white feather pinned to it by a pin that was yet another cogwheel, golden ribbon sewn on the borders of the hat itself.

White gloves stretched over his long fingered hands, a stark contrast against the sleeves of his elegant black coat and the golden cuff stripes that demonstrated his high rank; a belt of black leather, with the Armada symbol as the buckle, glistened around his waist, bearing his sword and parrying dagger; and finally, a medal glistened on his chest, over his heart, hung on a blood red ribbon and shaped to look like yet another gear, though with a star shaped amethyst in the centre... A medal of valorous service, bestowed upon him by none other than Kane himself after his retrieval of the fourth piece of El Dorado map.

"Cadiz..."This was Ulysses only words as the Interceptor approached the massive structure in the centre of the skyway.

With a creak of metal, the doors slid open, allowing the Armada frigate to enter the docking bay, where numerous other ships sat, including Ulysses' personal flagship the Malevolence.

Troopers patrolled the bay, including several Brutes sporting their scarily large hatchets, Royal Guards marching with their shield and claymore sword combo, Marines and Musketeers making up the rest of the population... But that was not the main thing, for standing right in the docking bay waiting for them was the Royal Spymaster, Deacon.

"Welcome back, Lord of Admiralty Ulysses."Deacon's voice was his usual monotone, smooth and dark, "and Ms. Durante, as well as Royal Engineer Auditore."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Thu May 01, 2014 8:47 pm

((Haha my please, length is never an issue with me whether a post is long or short.  AND OF COURSE, HE WANTS TO LOOK GOOD FOR HIS L- commander.   ;D why not when you're in Cadiz, right? I don't blame him one little bit.))
----

Hannah didn't have the heart to illuminate all of what had happened to Cristobal, even though she was certain he wasn't aware of everything.   It was hard enough for her to talk about as it was, and it seemed like the sort of thing that would hurt him on some level as well.  For the kindness he had shown her, she wouldn't do that to him- he had already had to relive enough grief for one day answering several of her questions.    It was just...too much by this point, both of them needed a break from heavier topics like that.

..Not that she still didn't have plenty of things to worry about, once they got home.  But at least those could turn out well, depending on how she behaved of course.  Hannah planned on nothing short of her absolute best- although if she had to speak to him, she knew it would be very fearfully so.    She wouldn't obsess over it yet anyway, not until the moment of truth was finally upon her.   Maybe she would get 'lucky' and Kane would be far too busy to be able to justify bothering with the likes of her anyway, and shove the task of delivering whatever offer to a different elite.   Maybe one she wasn't so intimidated by...

She sucked in a deep, calming breath as the large structure, known only as 'the machine' amongst most of the population, came into view.   They were almost there, so close!  It had been weeks since she had last been home, but Kane's crown jewel was still as menacing as ever.  It never seemed to lose that aspect about it, always a great show of force, power, and knowledge.   Beautiful indeed, but a fearful sight at the same time.

It was rivaled only by the entrance Ulysses made after having decided to change his clothing yet again, this time dressing in a manner suitable for meeting with any figure as esteemed as the clockwork elite.   Much like the clockwork she had been surprised to have learned he had made himself, Septimus even looked like one of them- but then, she imagined that was very much his intent.   Even knowing how sensible and expected that was though didn't stop her from admiring his wardrobe just the same.   It was very elegant and fitting; he was that much more of a commanding presence looking like this.   She might have suspected he was a clockwork, had she not known anything about him at all, and assumed many of his enemies likely thought he was if he came at them dressed like this.

So you do have to jump through hoops like a little plaything for them after all, Ulysses  Hannah thought to herself, feeling an odd sense of comfort as well as pity at that.  Well, so long as they acknowledge your efforts, I suppose it's really not all that bad.

She did feel a twinge of envy at the many medals he was decorated with, particularly the one resting just over his heart.  But she ignored it as best she could, reminding herself of everything the man had gone through.  None of that was worth any medal, no matter how beautiful and prestigious it was.  She suspected he might have traded it in a heartbeat, if doing so would have restored everything he had lost to him, corrected all of those tragedies in his life.   Therefore, it wasn't to be envied.  It was something he needed more than somebody like she did, she reminded herself again, able to ground herself and not feel so envious anymore with all of that in mind.

"Casa dolce casa..."  Hannah muttered to herself as they navigated through Valencia's emerald, stormy skyways, making way for Kane's capital almost with a vengeance.  Everybody else certainly wanted to get back to Cadiz as quickly as possible, that much was certain.   She couldn't blame them though, and it wasn't as if she had never seen this day coming.

She steeled herself further, at least as much as she could, when the ship finally pulled into a docking bay rife with all sorts of Armada ships.   And not only them, hundreds of clockworks as well.   Hannah felt dizzy as she looked out at them all, the sheer numbers that were all around here.  If anything went wrong here at all, it would be incredibly dire indeed.   All the more reason to be on her best behavior here.

Hannah swallowed hard as she glanced away from all of the troops and their massive weapons, her gaze settling on the elite that had decided to grace them with his presence as they docked.   It gave her at least some relief to see it was the spymaster, Deacon, who was waiting for them and not the Supreme Commander himself.    Maybe she had some reason for that fleeting hope of hers after all.

Before she could perk up with any of this knowledge however, the way he addressed Ulysses gave her more cause for concern.   Cristobal as a royal engineer wasn't as unsettling with how friendly he had been toward her, but Ulysses as the Lord of Admirality for Valencia?   That was another story entirely.   She had no doubt he had earned such an honored position, but at the same time it was going to make her life difficult if he refused to trust or grant her any benefit of the doubt, Hannah just knew it.  She could already see it now, this man in charge of anything related to her, able to punish her severely with just one flick of his hand.    Fantastic.

Well, she would just have to show him she was a more valuable and respectful ally than anything else.   But, that was something she could do for sure.   She promised herself as much, as she clutched onto her shield, almost insecurely.

"Spymaster Deacon."  She finally returned, dipping her head in a measure of respect.    All things considered though, he was the clockwork she didn't fear as much as some of the others.   He would probably just deliver a quick message to Ulysses anyway who would recount it to her, likely not wanting to waste any more time than was necessary and preferring their company and attention to hers.

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Ulysses Septimus Thu May 01, 2014 9:15 pm

((Okay, glad to hear that XD AND I KNOW RIGHT? LOL, and so true, you are in Cadiz LOL and about to meet the elites too XD))
----

Deacon replied her with a respectful dip of his head, then focused on Ulysses again, "Lord Kane as well as the others are waiting for you all in the throne room... Now, shall we?" He pointed with his walking stick toward the direction of the central chamber, where the Supreme Commander was no doubt waiting.

Septimus nodded respectfully, one hand on the hilt of his sword, the other resting limp at his side, "Let us go, wouldn't want to keep our Lord waiting." He turned to Cahin for a moment right after he finished his sentence, murmuring, "Return to the Interceptor, please, I'll be there in a moment." Ulysses turned back to face the Royal Spymaster, taking large steps to keep up with the clockwork, while Servus Decimus, Sentus Optimus, and Cristobal (who pointed toward Ulysses' direction with his head in a silent gesture to Hannah for her to follow)trailed him.

Marching through the twisting hallways, they finally arrived before a pair of huge metal doors, with a Royal Guard on either side, standing like two statues with their claymore swords strapped to their backs, their elaborate halberds gripped tightly in their hands, their large shields held close to their bodies in a position that would allow them to snap into action immediately. Once they approached, the Praetorians threw the double doors open, revealing the titanic throne room, which obviously had a bit of refurnishing since the last time Ulysses visited-

A long rug of some sort of expensive red material ran from the door all the way up to the raised dias where Kane's throne stood; there was a large, stained glass window behind Kane's golden throne as well, depicting the portrait of none other than the Supreme Commander himself; two other Royal Guards stood at the bottom of the dias, halberds poised with their backs against two lampposts about their height, topped with lamps that cast gear shaped symbols on the ground.

Ulysses approached the dias first, getting down on one knee while placing the palm of his left hand onto his chest, where his heart is. "Ave, Imperator Primus Caesarus, ruler of Valencia, Supreme Commander of the Armada, future ruler of the Spiral." Unlike him, Cristobal merely bowed low, Deacon himself giving a very respectful dip of his head.

"Raise, Lord of Admiralty Ulysses."Kane's voice boomed, powerful and superior, "Welcome back... And you, Ms. Durante, welcome..."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Thu May 01, 2014 10:03 pm

((Exactly. OH SNAP DID HE JUST TELL CAHIN 'WAIT IN THE CAR'.  XD  poor Cahin!!))

----

At least Deacon was well-mannered to most, one of the reasons he didn't intimidate her quite as many as the others.   Hannah was relieved for a second as he turned to address Ulysses and Cristobal, though it didn't last long before apprehension had her in its clutches again.   All the spymaster needed to do was mention that Kane, as well as the others, were waiting for them.  She knew there wasn't a chance in the spiral she wasn't expected to tag along- why would Ulysses have bothered letting her live and giving her a ride all the way here, just to remain behind like he muttered to Cahin?

"R-right..."

Her voice came out so soft, so weak, that it surprised even her and she was certain nobody heard it.  Cristobal was the only one who might have paid attention, but even he had moved on too far ahead to pick it up after gesturing his head in a manner that only confirmed she was supposed to go with them.   Her only hope now was becoming just as invisible as she had at different points in time on the ship on the way over, something she knew wasn't going to happen.  She stood out from the rest of this crowd, after all.

It was...curious though why Cahin wasn't coming along with them.   Lucky man, she thought anxiously to herself, as she quietly followed after the rest of them, several steps behind considering the fact she wasn't as confident and eager to see the Supreme Commander as they all were.   There had been a time when she had gotten swept up in the love affair Valencia and practically all of her people had held for Kane and the clockworks, it had been easy after those glimpses she had witnessed on the battlefield and he had been their hero, their savior.

Being in his presence would have been a thrilling idea then...but now?   She was terrified of him, uncertain what to expect or just how far he and his legions would go for anything.  He was still a hero, but a cold, intimidating one who could crush her easily if he wanted.  It was hard not to reflect on all of that, and obsess over it now that she was only seconds away from seeing him.  Her hands were even starting to shake now, and she wasn't even in the same room as him yet.

Her heart started to flutter nervously, picking up speed as they finally made it to the most elaborate and guarded doors in the hallway.   This had to be the entrance to the throne room- there was no other reason for a special duo of guards to be set up here for anything else.  Unless it was the war room, which she supposed was possible but didn't think likely at the moment.

Sure enough, the moment the doors were thrown open for them, it was very clearly Kane's throne room; immaculate and elegant, in every possible way.  Though it was more like a place of worship than a throne room, which was fitting given everything the first of the clockworks had become following the end of the Polarian war.   It frightened her that much more to behold.

She didn't know what to do or how to convince herself to move as the others all went in without thought or hesitation, showing Kane different levels of respect based upon their position.   It had been so long, she wasn't sure what the appropriate version was for anybody in her position, which only served to encourage her nerves to keep growing.   Finally however she forced herself in, dropping to one knee  like Ulysses had though without anything to do with her hands and far further away from where he was; closer to the entrance of the room than she was the clockwork.   She wouldn't even look Kane in those deeply terrifying voids that served as his eyes, instead staring at the ground; her body language as submissive as she could make it, with how tense she currently was.

Hopefully this...this is enough.  If not, I don't know what to do.

She wished....she wished her father had been here at the moment, had he been able.  It was a silly, pointless thought, but she couldn't help it just the same.  He always knew what to do, his presence had been so comforting.   She felt so...unnerved right now, judged, as if every little twitch her body would make would be scrutinized for some deeper meaning.

His voice made a chill run down her spine as he first addressed Ulysses.  It had been a while since she had heard it as well, and it seemed so...potentially sinister now that it was the voice that belonged to a figure who very much held her and every other Valencian's lives in his hands.

"T-thank you....My Lord."  She finally managed to speak, though her voice held a slight tremor, making her fear obvious.    She had tried to put on false bravado, but it was so hard in front of him- he seemed to have this...power to completely drain her and others like her of what bravery they had previously held.    "I..."

She didn't finish that thought.  She didn't know if she was allowed to or even what she should be saying.   So she fell silent again, waiting for one of those 'superior' to her to indicate not only what was okay to discuss, but when.

"I suppose you are wondering why I've tasked Royal High Admiral Ulysses to bring you here."Kane drawled in his smooth, almost human-like voice, "I have a little... Offer, that I thought you might just be interested in." At the Supreme Commander's words, Ulysses smiled, quite obvious since he only wore a half mask: being a master manipulator and observer, Kane had seen the way that she had acted around certain memebers of the Resistance, and gained rather valuable info that he wanted.

Hence, he sent Ulysses to put up a show of arresting her, creating the illusion that she was to be taken back and punished... When in truth Kane wanted nothing more than to get the info, and land a even better grip on Hannah.

Ulysses kept his head bowed, still in his original position, waiting for his beloved God to say that he can stand; there really is no other being in the whole Spiral Septimus admired more than Kane himself. The Supreme Commander was a god, and a god deserves nothing less of his full respect and worship... Who would disagree with him? Kane was perfect in every single way possible, not to mention that he wanted nothing but a golden age for all of Valencia, something Ulysses could see coming up ever closer with each part of the Grand Design he helped complete.

To say the swashbuckler was honored to be in Kane's presence would be a major understatement... He was mentally floored by being in the very presence of the god he had worshipped since the very beginning.

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

((LOL our brains are just...creative that way, no shame there! CAHIN PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. it means you get more time with Ulysses later to make up for the wait. ;D You gotta sell how long that wait was!))
-----------

Her head actually jolted up to look at the clockwork for a moment at those words, surprised by the part of that she hadn't been informed about beforehand. Realizing her mistake immediately, Hannah made it a point to gawk at Ulysses where he was still bowed respectfully as well and felt...many things coursing through her at all once.
So, it had been a set up. He'd played her for a fool the entire time and all of that....it had been planned. Did that mean..she was responsible for anything that had happened to those innocent civilians on the isle of fetch? It hurt to think that could be the case, so she instead hoped the Admiral had merely seen her slip away there and waited until his most opportune moment to strike, that the assault would have happened anyway no matter what.

That did not help her with how close Tomas had come to danger, how close she had put him in harm's way. This was why she was afraid to get close to people like him, why she tried to push them as far away from the Armada as possible. They were so manipulative, everything planned out and serving a purpose- she wasn't safe to be around, if they would pull something like this on her. She hated to think what would have happened to Tomas, had Ulysses been forced to drag him along as well.

But why, why hadn't he just told her?! If he knew anything about her like he seemed to think, then he would have known just how easy it would have been to persuade her to come here without all of that. It made her angry to think he had played that kind of cruel game with her, made her watch them kill those dogs. It had all been a fear tactic, she was sure of that; a means of working her up and intimidating as well as wearing her out before she got here so that she was easier to manage.

Clever of you Admiral, I never saw it coming, she bitterly thought to herself. Very clever indeed.

"..I'm listening, intently. What is it you would ask of me, this offer?"

As flustered as she was by what grand stroke Ulysses had pulled on her, it didn't really matter anymore. She was here and she would do whatever they wanted to keep the peace and herself and her family safe, a truth they all had to know by this point. She could be upset at the Admiral later she knew, if the offer wasn't to her liking. If it was, well...she owed him at least some thanks, even if she felt the urge to punch him for the measures he had settled on to accomplish all of this in the first place.

She was still completely anxious in Kane's presence, unable to will her heart to slow down any, but she had to ask. This time, she was able to do it more confidently, thanks to the frustration she felt for Septimus. At the very least, she could mentally thank him for that one. Looking much more weak than she already did would be a terrible mistake, so she had to try and pull herself together, as much as she could.

"Anything." She added, as if hoping it would make her look better. "Simply...name your terms."

Maybe that had all been too forward, or maybe he would be relieved she was finally saying something so he didn't have to treat her like a mute and painstakingly explain everything. She didn't know. Hannah chewed on her lower lip as she waited for his response, still looking at Ulysses. He was still frozen in his position, unwilling to move just yet despite how high up in Kane's inner circle he was. Such devotion....he truly was the Supreme Commander's perfect little warrior.

((LOL I know right? Cahin you need to be patient haha XD and now, time for "Friend or Family"! >D))
----

"Oh it is nothing."Kane chuckled, dark amusement in his voice that was perfectly mirrored by Ulysses' own when the human Armada admiral was torturing his victims, "I simply want a few favors, and a couple of names... Do that, then I will be glad to give your father exactly what he needs." He focused on the kneeling figure of Septimus, commanding:

"Stand, Royal High Admiral Septimus, explain to Ms. Durante here the details."

Ulysses got to his feet, "As how you command, my lord." The way that he straightened, combined with his eerily monotone of a voice, was no more different than a clockwork's. Septimus focused on Hannah, then stated calmly, "Arresting you, Ms. Durante, was all a show that I've staged: if I just brought you here with me, then wouldn't your friends know of your true allegiance? Do you seriously want to be despised as a traitor by your friends?"

The Armada admiral paused, letting it sink in, then continued, "Lord Kane just wants you complete two missions for us, then he will be glad to terminate your contract as well as provide your father with the best possible treatment." His voice was human, once more, calming and...pleading? Ulysses continued, "Provide us with the names of all of the Resistance members in Valencia, and help us destroy Skull Island, destroy the pirates." Septimus said nothing more, he left the rest to her, left her to think about what it means.

He knew it would be hard for her to provide the names, based on what he had learned from his spies' observations. "Mentor can confirm that those are all that you have to do, Ms. Durante."Ulysses spoke softly, sincerely, "after, we will do our best to help get your father back into his normal condition... Do you think it is impossible with the power of the Apple of Eden?" At the mention of its name, the left hand side pocket of Ulysses' coat glowed a little brighter, as though it wanted to confirm its owner's words.

((YOU WILL GET YOUR LOVE CAHIN, WE PROMISE. And ohhh, well lol luckily for her they specified Valencia not 'those other friends you care about the most'. None of them are Valencian, so she got off easier. >D Still a very hard game to play, these guys are all trolls LOL.))

-----

Nothing...Hannah would have scoffed at that remark, had she not been so afraid of the first of the clockworks, and obsessively trying to ensure she was behaving as expected here. It was never so easy with these clockworks, and the tone in which Kane uttered those words felt fairly predatory to her. It came across less like any genuinely charitable effort to show that he truly had every Valencian's best interests at cogheart...and more manipulative than anything else. Especially when he played one of the best cards he had at his disposal to use against her- her father.

This was the price of being one of Valencia's soldiers she supposed. Even if they hadn't tasted many battles ever since the clockworks had taken over most of their posts following the war, there were still all the oaths they had sworn to consider, the fact Casimir had willingly handed the role of at least commanding all of his kingdom's military to the imposing figure only a few feet away. Even from that much she couldn't refuse the clockwork's wishes, it was technically her job, just like the other living soldiers, to obey whoever had been appointed to military control.

..He had to have known that, but then perhaps that had been the reason for such a tone. Maybe he simply enjoyed toying with those who did not hold the same fanatical loyalty Ulysses did, and this was a covert means of slapping her in the face while trying to break her at the same time. It was possible she was too on edge, looking into too many things, but Kane had always seemed...masterful at the art of all warfare, which included the psychological kind. He obviously knew enough about her emotional weaknesses to have picked something so effective.

She disliked being played with on this level, feeling like just another one of many pawns on the clockwork's grand chessboard that he pushed around and whose actions he manipulated with ease. But....that much didn't matter either anymore. She wouldn't say no, she couldn't. The armada had too much power, her father needed help only they could give, and she did not want to be seen as their enemy. If she could not have her normal life back, then all she could do was desperately grasp onto what they were willing to let her have. Even if it did cost her a good chunk on her will.

Her father, her family, needed it...It would all be okay in the end, as long as things worked out at least there.

Ulysses rose as Kane instructed him to, stiffening out and delivering the first bit of information to him as eerily hollow as a clockwork might have. His logic only placated her slightly, as he had a point there even if if hurt her pride to admit it. She still wasn't sure it had the been the best means in the long run though, convinced she would have been able to come up with some kind of lie that would have kept her friends off their trail. It was hard for her to feel as comforted by that explanation as she might have otherwise been, when the Admiral went on to mention more of the details of what was expected at her.

Her fingers curled tightly around the luxurious, red fabric of the carpet beneath her as they asked about the resistance. She didn't know as much as Kane seemed to think she did, and she wasn't sure what Ulysses believed about her anymore as his explanation had made it seem like he knew where her loyalties lay, but likewise assumed she had enough connections to give them the information they wanted. She wasn't even in the resistance, let alone knew the name of all of the members here.

But....she did know some things they didn't. Things that had been confided in her because one of the members was a friend of her mother, while another had been an old, childhood accomplice of hers. They had told her quite a few things in confidence, at first trying to lure her into their ranks which she had stayed out of, then when they had accepted she would not join them, because they simply trusted her not to stab them in the back. They were good people, good Valencians...it was hard to consider handing what they had told her over to Kane, especially as she feared what they might do to them, but at the same time...how could she refuse?

This was a test of loyalty, a cruel one, but one just the same. She couldn't fail it, no matter the emotional pain any of this would bring. Ulysses's voice turning pleading only made the battle worse in her mind, especially as he mentioned her father. Yes...if she didn't do this, then her father, he would....

"I...I don't know all of their names..." She admitted honestly, forcing her voice to remain as level as possible, keeping as much of the pain out of her tone as she could. "I am not in the resistance as you think, so there are many things I do not know. But..."

As her voice trailed off for a second, Hannah made it a point to look at Kane, straight in his eyes. It was so hard, those lifeless voids were terrifying and it felt like they were scorching her very soul as she looked at him. But she had to do it, to show she was trustworthy and delivering the truth. Not meeting gazes was typically seen as the sign of a liar, and she did not want him paranoid she was one.

"A young unicorn duelist, known very well for his fencing skills, Ridolfo Capoferro, I was told is the leader of the Valencian pocket of the resistance against you. That he uses his social standing, money, and charm to win people over to their cause, to help them out, and keep evading you as well as provide as many of them as possible with supplies. I knew him, as a child. He and I grew up in the same city, and I...believe he still resides in his family's mansion there.

There is also...something strange going on at Silvella. A friend of my mothers, a teacher there by the name of Bianca Francesco, I overheard her and some of the other teachers and maybe one of the janitors discussing secret meetings. From what I heard, they hold them late at night, when nobody is around. Is there any time or place better for the resistance? The teachers and janitors can seem unassuming, slip in and out without patrols feeling suspicious."

She paused to allow all of that to sink in, as well as to give her mind enough time to find a suitable way to answer the rest.

"That is all I truly know...But, if I must, if it be your will, I can...find out more, somehow. If that is what it takes, to help my father and prove to you I am not your enemy, it is what I will do. There is nothing more I can give you now, though. That is all I know, I swear!"

It would hurt if he decided she should serve as some kind of spy amongst the resistance, to gain the trust of good, mislead people only to stab them in the back. But if it was what she had to do, she would.

"You will have no trouble convincing me to help put an end to piracy anywhere." She continued, almost feeling offended that none of them seemed to realize she had no love for them, with how much they knew about her father. "They are responsible, after all, for...everything. That is an easy thing to promise you, Supreme Commander and after all it is my duty, is it not? I will follow yours, or the Admiral's commands there for certain. Consider that much done as well."

At least that part was....easier. And maybe she could still somehow keep her non-Valencian friends out of this. They weren't pirates, after all.

She finally returned her gaze to Ulysses as he continued, assuring her that was all they wanted of her, but she wasn't so sure. They were talking only about her father, the termination of her contract. Both things she cared about dearly and would do what they asked for, but there was still a question lingering on her mind.

"...No, I...believe that is the only sort of thing that can help him now. But, will all of this finally prove to you, all of you, that my loyalty has and always will be to Valencia? I do not take the oaths I gave during the Polarian war lightly, and I need to know, if you still do not trust me, if there is still any more room for doubt, what I have to do in order to eliminate that."

She would do practically anything for this as well.

"...I want the golden age just as much as anybody. It's the only way things will ever go back to normal.."

She knew they never would return to normal despite the fact she said it, it would never be like it once had been with Kane as the ruler of the entire spiral. But she was...too tired, too weary to resist that much. There was no point in fighting against him, and things would at least be better in several ways once Kane had won. She and most of Valencia were already used to his rule by this point anyway, so it hardly required much adjustment on her part. She may have disagreed with some of his methods of making this so but....maybe there really was no other way by this point. A truth she blamed on the pirates.

((XD he's still pouty and sulky though! And haha yes, but still... And I know right? Especially Lord Kane himself LOL))
----

"Excellent."Kane laughed, a dark rumbling sound that echoed from the depth of his mask and throat, "you have my word, Durante, but also remember this, I want you to obey Ulysses' commands as you would obey mine until your contract is terminated... Understand?" Really, there was no other human soldier the Supreme Commander trusted more than Ulysses Septimus himself; there was no reason not to, Ulysses' had virtually no more attachments to the world, with what he has left being all supporters of the Armada cause.

The Supreme Commander paused, then spoke again with a slight chuckle, "The Golden Age is at last close at hand; Royal High Admiral, I trust that your men will take care of all the other worlds once Skull Island is decimated?"

Ulysses turned his attention back to Kane, bowing his head once in respect then replied, "Yes, my lord, the Assassin branches in Monquista, Krokotopia, Polaris, Mooshu, Marleybone and Aquila will ensure that there is no more opposition after the final cleansing is done." Once the pirate haven is destroyed, the Assassin branches located in those worlds will spring to action: the Monquistan branch, and the Marleybonean branch, if they hadn't surrendered already, will bring down the monarchies in those worlds; Krokotopia's branch, the Headquarters, had already taken over most of its world already, so no problem there; Mooshu is an easy piece to take, considering how the emperor's own nephew is an Assassin Master himself; Polaris had fallen into Assassin control for many years already; and finally, the Neo Aquilan Order, with the help of the high priests who marked Altair as a god, could pursuade Aquila into following with what virtues Altair had done for them.

"At last..."Kane nodded approvingly, "you have once again proven yourself to be one of the most capable officers of the Armada, Septimus... Worthy enough to take this throne, once the Golden Age begins." He tapped on the armrests of the chair he was currently seated on, an action that immediately made Ulysses stand up even straighter, if that was possible even.

"I am honored, my Lord Kane, I truly am."The Armada admiral replied with respect, and a trace of reverence in his voice, "for the glory of the Armada!"

((Aw Cahin, looool. Ulysses you have a lot of apologizing to do to him, huh? BIGGEST TROLL. much like his real life creator. XD It all makes sense!))
----------

Hannah wasn't sure how to feel with the underwhelming reaction she was met with. Kane barely acknowledged the information she had just given him, at least it appeared that way on the surface. If he was absorbing it all to mind and memorizing it, then he was doing a damn good job of keeping all of that to himself. Worse yet, she didn't know what he was giving her his word on. She trusted he would keep whatever promise he was indicating, but he was suddenly, alarmingly in her mind, vague.

Her heart began to sink somewhat as she was met with it, concerned this meant he would not give all of what she wanted. As they had mentioned her father and contract, in her mind that meant either he would not completely trust her just yet, or wished to continue holding onto the right to make her run herself ragged in order to prove herself to him. After all, he didn't necessary need the contract anymore, if he made her feel that she needed to prove her loyalty to Valencia and any trustworthiness she wanted him to see by doing whatever he or Ulysses could think up. He could also use the help he would eventually grant her father as emotional blackmail to only help with that- she would owe him and the Armada for that generosity, Valencian culture dictated it was only proper that all debts were repayed.

It felt like she had been outsmarted, again. Hoodwinked into a situation that would demand more of her than the initial contract had. She felt pained by that knowledge, of what dark aspects Kane possessed. During the Great War he had seemed....different. At least not quite as manipulative. It actually hurt to consider these sides of him, especially since she did not think she deserved to be the victim of them. She had fought in the Polarian war too. Unfortunately, that did not seem to be enough. Perhaps if she did what they wanted though, eventually it would be and he would grant her everything she had asked for and could look back on her paranoia and be comforted by it being wrong.

Hannah prayed that would turn out to be the case.

"Of course, you have my word on that." The buccaneer finally spoke up, nodding her head as respectfully as she could given her position. She had not been told she could move and so she hadn't, as incredibly uncomfortable as maintaining this submissive posture was starting to become. "I will do exactly as he says...as I would you."

At least for how awkward that would be, she did know more about Ulysses now and he had seemed fairly human in his responses to her here...almost like he had been encouraging her to say yes out of some form of pity. Confused and frustrated as she was by some of these things, maybe she really could trust him more than she could Kane.

Her skin prickled with goosebumps as she listened to the two of them discuss one part of Kane's master plan, how close and ready they were to pulling it off. It was...it was going to be soon, it was really all starting to fall into place and go exactly to the clockwork's design. The other worlds would not know what was to hit them until it was too late, and Hannah wondered what would happen in the wake of the chaos, silently hoping those friends of hers out in the path of danger would lay down their arms rather than fight until the Armada felt they had no other choice but to kill them.

And then, Kane bestowed what Hannah could only describe as the biggest form of honor and respect he could have shown anyone. He spoke to him as if he were a clockwork of the highest make, even going so far as tell him his very throne would be his, once the golden age had begun. Once Kane had moved from Ruler of Valencia to ruler of the entire spiral, and needed a reliable second in command. She couldn't be too sure, but it seemed he was offering Ulysses the role of Valencia's new king, as he would very likely place himself as god of the spiral, once he reworked it to his own liking.

Hannah found herself truly stunned to silence, her eyes swelling at this knowledge. That was....astounding, especially that Kane would extend such glory to a living being of all things. He must have genuinely respected and cared about Septimus on some level then, otherwise he never would have bothered to make such a gesture.

These past few days have just been full of all sorts of surprises..

((LOL he certainly does, or he'll probably get kicked out onto the hallway/deck for the rest of the nights of this month XD oh I know right? BM is the biggest troll there is))
----
"Is there anything more I must be notified of?"Kane asked, leaning back almost lazily in his seat, the void-like sockets in his mask-face scanning over the humans like he was trying to see right into their very souls... Not that Ulysses himself minded anyway.

"Nothing more, my liege."Ulysses replied with reverence that he had no longer bothered to hide in his voice, "other than that I would like to report: I project Marleybone's surrender within the next month, with no more unneeded casualties for our side."

"Excellent, then you are all dismissed. Meeting adjourned!"Kane stood from his golden throne, earning a respectful bow from Ulysses as well as a few "For the glory of the Armada" from the other humans as the first of all the clockworks towered above them. He scanned around for a few moment, then turned and strided off quietly to his chambers, most of the elites such as Bishop, Phule, and Deacon following suit, so now only General Rooke remained.

Ulysses prepared himself to leave, only to halt with a smirk on his lips when Rooke spoke, "Admiral, have you forgotten that you agreed to prove your progress with me today?" Over the last few months, the human Armada admiral had been training with Rooke in all the arts of buccaneer combat, quickly proving himself to be even better than the Grand Marshal after the first month.

And of course, Rooke, being the sore loser he is, always tries to show himself superior to Ulysses, only to end up  being beaten each and every time.

The admiral smoothed a crease from the crisp white shirt he wore underneath the black, felt vest beneath his coat, "How could I forget, general? Shall we head for the Arena now?"

((LOL that mental image just cracked me up, thank you. Ulysses you better have something awesome planned then. HE IS. but I like him just the same. XD Sorrry if this post tanks though, my brain is fighting me on the best way to say things.))
-----

Hannah was relieved when Kane dismissed them all and left, finally able to rise from the uncomfortable position she had been in. She stumbled slightly as she got up, a bundle of tense nerves all around, but once she had finally straightened herself out and stretched what she could, she began to feel at least a little bit better. Not all the way, but that was to be expected after everything she had recently gone through. The human woman let out a heavy sigh, loud and weighed down with a lot of feelings; one that almost sounded as if she had been holding her breath this entire time even though that was not the case.

The Supreme Commander was terrifying, manipulative, mesmerizing, overwhelming on so many levels, she honestly needed the chance to gather her thoughts and recover from many parts of this summons. At least as much as she could, before she was shuffled to helping with the tasks she had just agreed to carry out for the Armada. Though she would gladly take those on, perhaps even more so than ever now, if it would convince Kane and Ulysses both to eventually trust and not manipulate her as much as they possibly could.

The buccaneer held a hand to her head as if she was prone to getting a headache from all of this, massaging her temples slightly as she was still accepting what had just happened, that she had just sold two, maybe even more people out to the clockworks who had been nothing but generous and friendly toward her. There was no taking it back now though, and even if she could have, Hannah wouldn't. Too much was at stake, and they had made their unfortunate choice by being such high up members of the resistance in the first place. She pitied them for sure, but not enough to try and save them, not anymore. Her only concern now was herself and her family, to ensure all three of them had a place in Kane's new, golden Valencia that was not behind bars and slapped in irons.

Much like the others, Hannah had started to leave the room to make back for the Admiral's ship, as she certainly had no idea where else she was supposed to head seeing as her galleon was all the way back in Marleybone. But she stopped just at the entrance to the room as she heard the deep, booming voice that was the Grand Marshal's Rooke's, curious as to what it was he wanted from Ulysses. She half-expected him to launch into some kind of congratulatory speech about the great honor Kane had extended to him, but instead he was issuing a sparring challenge to the swashbuckler.

Now that was something she imagined would be quite a sight to see. She hoped it was something she would be allowed to tag along for as a spectator, because she was very curious to see how Ulysses would handle himself against a buccaneer built like Rooke. That and, watching a heavy sparring match with two, capable warriors such as them would help her take her mind off things for at least a little bit. She lingered by the doorway, moving only enough so the two could pass by her if she was not permitted to follow, but at the same time clearly indicate she might have been interested in watching such a spectacle.

((LOL no problemo sister XD... Also I agree with you, BM is a troll but an awesome guy too. And here comes my short though slightly rambly post: yours was not horrible!))
----

Ulysses gestured for his two clockwork officers, Cristobal, as well as Hannah to follow him, turned and started after General Rooke down another hallway. He grinned to himself, footsteps echoing down the hall leading to the large, indoor arena they had erected in Cadiz not so long ago: it was always so satisfying when he beats down the titan clockwork in hand to hand combat, no matter how many times he had done so. This time would be of no different, he would have just another victory to add to the number he had already lost count of, and perhaps a few scars to his collection.

Soon, they came upon a large metal door bearing the cogwheel insignia. Sentus Optimus stepped forward, pushing it open to show what looked like an Aquilan gladiatorial arena: a circular field paved with metal, with seats arranged in a funnel shape around it. Weapon racks leaned against the walls, bearing Dragoon blades, Battle Angel sabres, as well as Marine halberds, hatchets used by the Brutes, and claymore swords of the Royal Guards.

Ulysses made a gesture toward Decimus, signalling him to take Hannah and the others to the audience seats, but for Optimus to remain. "Fetch me my personal halberd." Traditionally, Ulysses would not use anything more than the upgraded halberds wielded by Armada marine captains, though he also owned a pristine Valencian halberd custom made for him by Cristobal Auditore himself.

Optimus gave a stiff nod of understanding, then disappeared into one of the many doors along the side of the Arena, reappearing with his own weapon set strapped to his back, the weapon Septimus had called for in his grip: it was a truly beautiful thing to behold, but fearsome as well. Mounted on a pole of Aquilan ash wood with a Valencian iron core, the shaft was pure white, the blade chrome silver, with a elaborate golden wave design on the flat sides, bound to the shaft with the finest, guilded alloy. Under the lighting in the Arena, its spear tip flashed dangerously, appearing as though it could stab through anything, even Rooke's armor.

Septimus removed his coat, hat and mask, giving them over to Cristobal before taking the halberd from Optimus' hands. He weighed the weapon, testing its feel and balance within his grip... Before finally turning to face Rooke, shifting to a defensive battle stance. Mentally, Septimus smirked, for he had recently just learned some new tricks that he knew for sure Rooke would not see coming: he chanted under his breath, feeling a wave of power slowly spiraling from his chest and spreading to the other parts of his body while a barely visible silhouette of a Triton hovered around him, bits of red and blue light shimmering in the air.

Triton's Song, it would not do much in totally protecting him, but it would be enough to stop him from bleeding to death, should Rooke actually land a hit on him; Ulysses hated this physical flaw of his, but what more can he do?

((He so is! That's why he's my favorite. >D oh pschaw this isn't a short or too rambly post at all, it's perfect! Very Happy And thanks!))
----

Thankfully, neither Ulysses or Rooke seemed to mind the idea of a crowd. The human Armada Admiral actually gestured for all of them, her included, to follow. The gigantic clockwork knight didn't, but then again he didn't say much of anything in response to any of the rest of them; too focused on the sparring match he seemed very intent on holding with Septimus if the way he lumbered on ahead, taking the lead was any indication. Hannah would have smirked at the very sight, had she calmed down enough to have done so by now. The way the titan and Ulysses had been acting with each other was....almost like bickering siblings. At least, from what she had seen her old friends and theirs go through, as she had no brothers or sisters to speak of. She had to admit, it was fairly amusing and if they acted like this now, it promised a good show for the rest of us.

In only a few minutes they had made it to the arena, just as impressive on the outside as anything else in this fortress. The doors were large and pristine, bearing cogwheel insignias in their very centers, but they soon paled in comparison to the arena that lay waiting for them. As soon as Sentus opened the doors enough for them all to see the arena, Hannah felt her heart flutter again- though this time, in some form of excitement.

The arena was a dream sparring ground for any serious warrior. The field, seats, racks of weapons, all of it was absolutely perfect for this sort of thing. It reminded her somewhat of the arenas they had used back when she had been younger and the war had been going on to train many of them as well as keep them on their toes; invoking a twinge of nostalgia just by looking around the spacious room. It was much nicer than what they had scraped together on the field in aesthetics of course, but it still flooded her mind with far more pleasant memories of the friendly sparring matches she'd done with some of the other soldiers. Enough the corners of her lips at first twitched, before she managed a faint, though completely genuine smile.

It had been the best possible idea to tag along to this after all, she was incredibly grateful now that her mind had grown interested and insisted on doing so. This was definitely going to help take her mind off everything else- not forever, but at this point she would take however long she could get.

"This is a beautiful training room." Hannah finally remarked out loud after her first, several minutes of enraptured silence, as she settled in to one of the seats; placing her own halberd and shield down at the foot of the chair, so that they wouldn't get in her way. She was eager to see the festivities begin, to watch somebody else be put on display here...and of course, she always loved to see a good, friendly scrap as a showcase of other people's skills.

"..And that a beautiful weapon." She added on, murmuring to herself in awe of the custom-made halberd Optimus soon returned with and placed in the Admiral's hands. The weapon was a labor of love indeed with that fine touch of elegance she had long come to expect from a man like Ulysses. Just one look at that thing and she could understand some of the reasons why he had decided to drag it out..though at the same time, it was an unusual choice for a swashbuckler. Those sort of weapons were more her and the Grand Marshall's forte, though Septimus at least appeared capable of handling such a large thing.

"Using a weapon our kind are so well known for against a sturdy, capable buccaneer? Hm, this will be an interesting match."

She meant that sincerely, as she had rarely seen a swashbuckler handle something other than daggers, swords, and sometimes a sabre and pistol. But, he had to have an angle, an edge here if he was using it. Something told her it was more than just an attempt to try and make the playing field even between the two of them.

A light brow was arched in intrigue as Ulysses took on a defensive stance to meet the stiff, aggressive one Rooke assumed. It was faint, but as a buccaneer, Hannah could clearly make out the words Septimus was chanting; recognize those flickers of color that was subtly fading in and out around him. That was...the triton's song spell, she was certain of that. Not nearly as hefty as leviathan's call, but dependable enough in a scrap. Very clever of Ulysses to have learned it and decided to use it, it would come in handy to use an increased pain tolerance and endurance against somebody like Rooke.

But, where had he learned such a move? Curious, Hannah looked over toward Cristobal, leaning over her seat and cupping one hand to her mouth so as to keep this little ploy of Septimus's secret from the titan. She wanted to see how her fellow human would fare against the bulkiest member of Kane's court, and if Rooke couldn't recognize that move when he saw it, she felt no need to give him a hand there.

"Where did he learn that spell? It's usually a well-kept secret among most buccaneers."

Her voice was only loud enough for the engineer to hear and answer if he so chose, not loud enough to be heard on the battlefield. Especially not when those two finally decided to clash.

((Okay good Very Happy <3 and no problem, my dear twin.))
----

Cristobal leaned toward her just a little, answering her question in the same hushed voice, "Lorenzo de Medici, my mentor, was one of the most distinguished swashbuckler/buccaneer of his time: he taught me a few buccaneer tricks while he was training me to be a swashbuckler, which I've passed onto Ulysses." Once he finished his sentence, the engineer resumed his position on his seat, his eyes locked on the sparring match that had just begun in the Arena below-

Rooke initiated the first blow by charging at Ulysses right, shield poised in front of him. Ulysses, however, saw that one coming for quite some time, and jumped up, utilizing his swashbuckler's grace to land a strike on the back of the Grand Marshal's neck with the end of his halberd's shaft, while landing with a thud behind Rooke.

The titan grunted, clearly feeling the impact thanks to the less than durable plating there. He spun around as fast as he could manage, only to be met with a jarring hit from  Septimus' weapon on his right arm's wrist that would have knocked his weapon clean out of his grip, if it wasn't for the blade of the halberd met the thickly armored plating; CLANG.

Septimus pulled his weapon back, holding the halberd horizontally to intercept a hit Rooke delivered toward his torso. Once again putting to use his swashbuckler's grace, the human Armada admiral jumped up, using his hold on the halberd's shaft and that one brief moment to kick Rooke right in the chest, stunning the titan. When Ulysses landed, he thrust his weapon toward Rooke's shield arm, startling the general by tearing a gash through the chink in the armor plating his wrist, which was significantly weaker than the rest, effectively forcing Rooke to drop his shield, while drawing a thin stream of clockwork blood.

Once the troublesome thing was gone, Ulysses held his weapon in both hands and swung it in a wide arc, forcing the Grand Marshal to step away from the shield to face him with just the help of his halberd alone. The admiral smirked mentally once more, for he remembered several of Rooke's tricks from the time he spent training with him.

"This one ends when one of the combatants give in."Cristobal explained to Hannah after removing his goggles, "thus, they will both do their best now to wear the other down, to the point where they admit defeat... So don't be surprised if they come down with a few nicks and scars."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Sun May 04, 2014 12:21 pm

((Sorry this took forever to get up when barely anything happens in it. XD I can't do rp or story stuff when people are leaning over my shoulder!))
----

So, Cristobal was the source of what buccaneer knowledge Septimus had? That one made perfect sense to her, with how knowledgeable the older man had come across, coupled with the fact he had been the Admiral's mentor. If her father had been able to teach her at least a few, basic swashbuckling concepts here and there, a man like the engineer was probably just as good at teaching them. Heck, she was seeing as much from Ulysses's ability to utilize that spell alone, and would no doubt see more traces of Cristobal's teaching throughout the match. Theirs was a deadly combination, after all. One well worth investing the time and effort in.

Satisfied with the answer, Hannah relaxed in her chair as much as she could, allowing more of her nerves and anxiety to fade away for now as intrigue for how this match would end up worked to dominate her thought processes. She was more than willing to give it that chance, to forget everything that had just happened and lose herself in anything she could. This was easier, with the fond memories it brought up.

The titan Rooke was the one who moved first, lumbering toward the Admiral in a way she recognized all-too-well. One that Septimus caught on with ease. That wasn't too shocking, buccaneers like them tended to lack subtlety. It usually wasn't very hard for everybody else to see what they had planned coming, or them charging across the battlefield for them. But, that was the price they paid for their impulsive tactics meant to intimidate others, she supposed. Most of them had enough pain tolerance and strength this sort of thing wasn't a problem anyway, and Rooke certainly was built to withstand as many hits as possible she could understand why charging ahead like this usually seemed to work for him.

But, it didn't this time. The swashbuckler was too nimble for that kind of move, easily evading it while landing a decent strike of his own on the knight's neck with the shaft of his weapon. They could hear Rooke's aggravated grunt of meshed pain and frustration from all the way over here, and her curiosity was even more piqued by the sight of this strategy. While she had not interacted with the tallest and bulkiest of the clockworks anywhere near as much as she imagined Ulysses had, she had been around him at least enough to pick out certain areas of weakness in his armor; areas the titan was quick to defend as viciously as possible on the battlefield. At least, from what she had personally seen of him.

A wonder he was not keeping those areas fiercely defended from a man with skills like the Admiral's...but then, Rooke had always suffered from the same ego the rest of the elites had adopted from their leader. On the battlefield was different, there were so many enemies and possibilities for things to go wrong, it was probably just part of his programming to consider as many of those outcomes as possible. Against one man however, his ego had that much more room to cause him issues. He probably didn't want to consider being bested by a living being of all things, and wasn't giving Septimus the credit he deserved. It would be interesting to see if that would lead to his defeat here.

Hannah was thankful the war and her father had taught her better in some situations, although she couldn't say she wouldn't have gotten swept up in the heat of battle and the emotions it brought either, if she had the security of knowing it was not a battle to the death. She continued to watch the scrap, quietly and engaged, as Rooke angrily spun around to no doubt make a wide sweep with his gigantic weapon-exactly the sort of thing she would have done, in a situation like this- only for Ulysses to take another swipe at him; his weapon meeting the clockwork's armor with a loud, resonating clang.

The Grand Marshall grew angrier from that she could see, as he delivered a powerful strike toward the swashbuckler's torso. All in vain though, as Ulysses flung his own halberd forward to catch the blow before it could even get close. Hannah furrowed her brows thoughtfully as she watched, resisting the urge to offer 'helpful' suggestions from the sidelines as it was not her place and she was growing more curious by the second to see how this would end for the titan. The battle could go either way at this point honestly, and it was exciting to watch and try to figure which one of them would pull the victory out in the end.

Grace and planning won out again, as Ulysses leapt and kicked himself off of Rooke's chest, stunning the both of them with performing such a bold move against a well-built buccaneer up close and personal where warriors like them shone. It was effective though, taking the clockwork knight by enough surprise he wasn't able to properly react in time, giving the Admiral plenty to deliver his next strike. His aim was true it seemed, when he found another of Rooke's lesser-protected spots, and the thin stream of blood that issued from the wound next showed them all he had chosen a wise place to make his mark.

That was another point for Septimus, Hannah mentally tallied away, with still none for Rooke just yet. And now, he had dropped his shield and was forced to wield just his halberd against the swashbuckler- not that it was too troublesome a thing for him, he was still plenty capable with just his weapon. Still, this battle was leaning heavily in Ulysses's favor for now. For the sake of Rooke's pride, she hoped he had enough tricks up his sleeves to pull out a victory here. If Ulysses won though, she would hardly feel too disappointed by that fact.

Her gaze flicked away from the right and toward Cristobal as he spoke again, explaining how this fight was set up and would go. She smirked at the explanation, imagining that this could drag on forever, if the two of them were as stubborn as she believed they were. Though she couldn't say that wouldn't be just as amusing as the fight itself.

"Just like the sparring matches some of us held during the Great War for fun and to keep ourselves ready for battle." She answered, happily reminiscing on them. "I remember those....Heh, I earned a few of my best scars in scraps like these. I see how this will play out, though I can imagine it much like a few I was in and saw- both of the participants too stubborn to admit defeat until they are just about ready to pass out."

She managed a chuckle at the very thought.

"I would hardly be surprised. Scars are trophies after all...well, at least the ones you earn. Something tells me the Grand Marshall will not be appreciative of that wound the Admiral just left him with."

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Ulysses Septimus Sun May 04, 2014 3:09 pm

((XD that is okay, my dear sister Very Happy take as long as you need and pschaw, that post is not boring!))
------

"Haha I could see that happening as well."The engineer chuckled, "Ulysses, after all, is a bit of a perfectionist." He had known his pupil well enough after so many years of training with him that the human Armada admiral's thinking was as obivious as day to him-

Ulysses stepped forward, weapon poised defensively just in time to meet Rooke's next strike: a skull cleaving hit the general delivered with both hands on his halberd to the ttop of his head, though with only enough strength and speed for the admiral to see it and block it in time, even though it did knock him down to one knee. This was not a battle, hence it meant that Rooke would not be aiming to kill, obviously, though it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be doing his best to try and defeat Septimus.

The Assassin's eyes narrowed, calculating with his agile mind while his body snapped into action. He kicked at the top of Rooke's knee, unlocking their weapons from the position by forcing back the titan. The armor plating there was surprisingly weak, when compared to the other parts of his leg like his shin. Ulysses snapped back up to a standing position, though was soon forced to sidestep as the Grand Marshal went into full, agressive offense mode, the blade of Rooke's halberd slashing the air where his shoulder was.

What Septimus could not predict next was how fast Rooke changed directions with his weapon; the moment the titan's strike was going to miss, Rooke turned his halberd in his hand so the blade faced Ulysses' arm, swinging in one horizontal arc that allowed the blade to rip into the flesh on the swashbuckler's arm.

Drops of red dripped from Ulysses' newly opened wound, staining the white fabric of his shirt and revealing the Hidden Blade he strapped to his arm. He wouldn't be using that thing in this fight, however. A hiss of pain, barely audible, escaped from Ulysses' lips: the Triton's Song spell he had casted earlier took away some of the pain, but not enough to keep the new gash from burning when Rooke inflicted it.

The human Armada admiral jumped backward, forcing his mind to focus on the battle beforehand... Just in time too, since Rooke charged at him again the next second. Split moment decision: jump. He leapt into the air, landing right on the large weapon the Grand Marshal was using, sending a well-aimed kick into Rooke's neck that was enough to knock the titan down to his back spread eagle on the floor. Ulysses might not be as strong as a buccaneer, but his skills ensured that he would be able to turn their strength against them when he needed it.

He pointed the spear tip at the titan's face, hissing, "Yield?"

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Sun May 04, 2014 3:42 pm

((Thank you for being so understanding! and it totally was hahah, but it's fun to gossip about fights. >D))
----

"Well, sometimes that comes in handy. Stubbornness can win a buccaneer like myself or Rooke many fights just by wearing our enemies out. The same can be said of anybody with the right level of tenacity."

Which both of these fighters had in bulk, Hannah realized, though she imagined between the two of them Ulysses likely had more simply because he had more to continue proving to the elite court. Even though Kane seemed fairly favorable of him, the human buccaneer couldn't imagine he had always been so generous toward this man, especially given the manipulative way he had dealt with her and so many others. Ulysses had earned the respect the Supreme Commander showed him somehow, and given how superior the clockworks tended to carry themselves over living beings like them, she could only imagine he'd had to achieve quite a fair amount to get where he was now in the first place.

Even Kane's approval didn't mean he was winning the full respect of the others, though. Hannah had noticed, ages ago, that many of the elites also behaved like bickering siblings between one another; bound by programming and duty to serve and show Kane respect, which they did, but that same courtesy was sometimes not extended to their fellow higher-ups. It wasn't hatred, in her mind it seemed more like competition, but she could only imagine how some of them must have felt about Septimus if they could be driven to compete against their own brethren for their master's favor. Though she wasn't sure whether defeating Rooke would earn him the titan's respect...or irritation. With the knight, it was sometimes hard to tell how he would lean over matters like that.

She would soon find out though, Hannah knew. And so she focused on the fight once more, as it began to grow more hectic. Rooke was playing harder now, coming at Ulysses with practically everything he had. The blow that drew her attention back was so hefty in fact, it sent the swashbuckler to one of his knees; clear indication that the clockwork was just as determined and stubborn to win this as he was. Hannah sensed the tactic, having used it quite a few times in her lifetime herself. He was sick of having Ulysses evade and dance out of his grasp and so now he was putting more power into his blows to catch him off guard and overwhelm him, appealing to one of the weaknesses she knew swashbucklers to have from having seen it in her own father.

But, the spell Ulysses had cast was likely still in place and while that would not give him a heaping extra dose of strength, it would allow him to withstand these sorts of things longer, as would any of the buccaneer tactics Cristobal had informed him of. Now this match was getting very interesting indeed- she wondered what the Admiral's next move would be, to match such brute strength.

The answer came swiftly as Ulysses moved reactively, lashing out at another of Rooke's softer spots. Hannah wondered why the titan didn't get at least the ones he could afford to have covered dealt with, though suspected pride and many victories on the battlefield to be at fault for that sort of thing. She knew how easy it was to fall into complacency if you mounted an impressive list of victories, so the same things that had lured her in probably worked just as well on him in turn. The blow didn't seem to matter for too long anyway, before Rooke finally landed a blow- a vicious strike against one of Ulysses's arms, that ripped flesh and drew just as much blood, if not more, than the Admiral had earlier.

That was a point for Rooke, attempting to turn the tide of battle in his favor. Septimus would have to act quickly if he wanted to continue holding his lead, as living creatures like them were far more susceptible to damage from these kinds of wounds. There were certain models of clockworks that seemed to handle them just as poorly, but as Rooke had been built incredibly heavy, she believed that meant he could take more blood loss than the swashbuckler could. And there was no way that hadn't hurt. Septimus had been wise to use the triton's song before the battle had begun, or it might have been much worse.

He proved his cunning and agility though, when he narrowly avoided the large buccaneer's next move. That jump was timed perfectly, just in the nick of it, and incredibly brazen as he made it a point not only to leap onto Rooke's massive weapon, but use it spring himself further into driving a powerful kick to the knight's neck. The force of all of this and the spot he had wisely chosen amounted in a powerful enough strike to send the titan toppling over on his back; a noisy, impressive affair. Hannah folded her arms against her chest as she watched, with bated breath, as the Admiral held the spear tip of his halberd to Rooke's face and insisted he yield.

Would that be enough, she wondered, or would Rooke refuse and launch another attack despite his compromised position? It was all very exciting, even if she found she couldn't judge exactly what was coming next.

Careful Admiral she found herself thinking as she waited for the titan's reaction. You may not want to get too close, if he's just as stubborn as you are...

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Ulysses Septimus Sun May 04, 2014 5:14 pm

((XD I know right? And here comes the longest post I've ever written! Also, I would like to mention that I will drop in the interesting stuff after your post that will be following this LOL if that made any sense at all!))
----

Rooke growled, irritation clear in his voice, "I... WILL NOT!" At the last part of his words, his weapon swept in, almost succeeding in catching Ulysses on the stomach with the end of the large halberd's shaft, if Septimus had not thrown himself hard to the side, rolling on the metal tiles for about three feet before snapping back up straight.

The titan got back up in an instant, snarling. He and Ulysses circled each other like mountain lions competing for the Alpha Male position, both paying no heed to the wounds inflicted by each other's weapons despite how both of the wounds now dripped a steady stream of blood that Ulysses knew would be quite some trouble to clean up later. He just prayed that his body would not start to give into the effects of blood loss he was so familiar with.

Thankfully, it wasn't long before Rooke took the offense again. He charged at Ulysses, swinging his halberd wildly in the manner very reminiscent of Brute clockworks, whose signature attack involved charging into enemy ranks, swinging their weapons in hope of destroying as many as they can before they are terminated. However, he had underestimated Ulysses' skills as a swashbuckler once more, because it just allowed the human Armada admiral to dodge to the side, bringing his own weapon up to cut into Rooke's upper arm, just above his elbow, between the platings where there was only fabric.

The titan snarled, clearly feeling the newly inflicted damage to him. As much as there may be similarities between Rooke and the war god Ares, Rooke was for sure not someone who would run to his master complaining about getting hurt in a battle. No, those scars in his frame were his pride, showing just how many battles he had gone through and survived, coming out victorious with his enemies crushed underneath his feet. However, he couldn't help but admit Ulysses was a decent warrior himself, no, scratch that, he would never say this out loud, but Septimus was a superior warrior in combat... Had the admiral been armed with his signature weapons, his dual rapiers, Rooke suspected he would have lost a lot faster, maybe within the first two minutes.

This was a losing battle for him, again, Rooke realized in slight irriation, he would lose to Septimus again, like he had so many times in the past; if he had not defeated Ulysses with his first couple of blows, then he would lose for sure because the longer everything drags on, the more time the human man would have to formulate, to calculate and create a plan to defeat him within his mind, something Rooke honestly would admit, not out loud though still, he himself was not an expert at... At least he could still try his best, to lessen the shame if he really loses, or turn the tables on Ulysses if fates permit.

He doesn't hate the human elite, to tell the truth, it was just that he was annoyed at how much favor Ulysses had gained from Kane, even though technically Septimus did sort of earn them with his efforts, annoyed at how he could best him every single time when they sparred. Rooke would not let it affect them in battle though, since they are all warriors under Kane's banner, officers serving for the same cause, one of his bretheren even, and the general was programmed to protect his brothers when he has to.

Rooke would not, Kane forbid, to even think about it, disobey his base programming, no matter how damn annoying Septimus could be with his teasing sometimes.

He focused even more on the battle, trying to pick a opening in Ulysses' elaborate and deadly dance that was a combo of swashbuckler and buccaneer styles. It was a rather difficult task, since Ulysses was a human, and quite sharp when it came to reading what his opponents want or was thinking of, and very, very careful in changing his style as he deemed needed. So Rooke finally lashed out when he found one, swinging his halberd toward Ulysses left side.

Out of the corner of his optic, Rooke caught a glimpse of a smile on Ulysses face, a smile that was all too similar to the titan. It was the same one when he was close to winning one of those sparring matches, it was too familiar since Rooke had seen it more times than he could count, something the titan was quite ashamed of: he can't count the times he had been defeated by Ulysses? Just, argh!

Ulysses took this moment to swing his halberd, flat side first, into Rooke's hurt arm, using the momentum Septimus had been so expert at using to knock the halberd out of the general's hands. The large weapon fell to the ground with a loud clatter, prompting a even wider grin from Ulysses' face. The swashbuckler strided forward, both hands on his halberd to swing the large weapon at Rooke's side, where one of his weakest chinks lies.

The titan took one step back instinctively, dictated by his emergency programming that was hardwired inside his cerebral processor to keep him from being offlined in the middle of a battle, should anyone attempt the same trick on him.

"Now, general, will you yield?"Ulysses chuckled, his halberd's spear point now no more than three inches away from Rooke's fact. If the Grand Marshal tried to lung for his weapon now, he would not be able to, since Ulysses was a swashbuckler and would be able to react the moment Rooke attempts. He repeated his words, suppressing the urge to laugh at the titan in his throat, "Will you yield?"

The titan gave a heavy sigh, "Fine, you won, Ulysses, again." Rooke braced himself to face Ulysses' upcoming taunts and teasing, only to be met with silence as the human Armada admiral gave his halberd back to the Marine captain Sentus Optimus to be brought back into the storage room where it was usually kept. Fine, it wasn't like Rooke had any problem with it; he sauntered over, picking up his halberd and shield, then marched just as quietly out of the Arena, still nursing his wounded pride.

Ulysses chuckled when the titan was finally out of sight. He walked into the audience seats, where Hannah and Cristobal sat, while examining the long gash in his forearm. It would hurt like hell later, once Triton's Song fades out, but, eh, whatever, he had won anyway.

Cristobal reached into his satchel, taking out a small bottle, marked with a hand written label that said Hydrogen Peroxide, a common type of disinfectant, and a roll of bandages. "Best get that dressed before it becomes troublesome." At least this was not as bad as what the engineer had seen Ulysses gone through the first few years of him serving as an Assassin, as well as what he brought back after a few solo missions.

The human Armada admiral nodded his thanks to his mentor, then took a seat that was one away from Cristobal, pouring the disinfectant slowly into his wound, wrapping the cut securely with the bandage he was provided with.

World-Marleybone - Page 6 Empty Re: World-Marleybone

Post by Hannah Durante Sun May 04, 2014 9:37 pm

((PARTY TIMEEE I SAY. >D Haha hey this post is plenty interesting I say! But I know what you meant for sure. SORRY THIS POST IS SO BLEH. ))
----

Sure enough, Rooke was just as hellbent to win the match. At this point, probably even more despite the fact Ulysses had started out that way in her mind, considering the fact there was an audience here to witness him being bested by a human man he towered over. The fact the Admiral was also a skilled warrior probably meant nothing to the Grand Marshall at this point. From what she knew and had seen of him, Hannah knew that the knight had a fairly short temper compared to the rest of his brethren, that something like the beating he was receiving would likely only drive him to rage, unless things had suddenly changed.

Which they obviously hadn't, from the way he had growled his refusal to yield. She imagined he was going to put up that much more resistance now, and do everything in his power to force Ulysses into surrendering. If he could, that was. From what she had been seeing up until this point, Hannah wasn't so sure he could anymore- the swashbuckler was very crafty and seemed to have a trick up his sleeve for every possible outcome. Rooke was skilled too there was no denying that, but she could already see his anger getting the better of him here.

Especially given how quick and nimble Septimus was, which continued to be true. Rooke charged forward again, utilizing much the same tactic she had back on the ship with the pirate who had managed to stab her in the shoulder. Only this time, he was up against a far more skilled swashbuckler, so that sort of move didn't work at all. Ulysses easily avoided the obvious strikes, and took advantage of the opening the clockwork had given him; again striking in one of the very few tender areas Rooke had; this time invoking an even louder, more aggressive reaction than before. He actually snarled instead of grunting, which made it perfectly clear not only how much that had hurt, but that the elite's patience was very quickly running thin.

Not that she could blame him with how well Ulysses was faring against him. She was actually impressed at the display she was watching, as he seemed to actually be blending two different fighting styles seamlessly and overwhelming Rooke by doing so. The titan just stood there, his body language making it obvious he wasn't sure what to do. Hannah sympathized with him in that moment, having spent quite a fair amount of time in that frame of mind lately, and a feeling in her gut told her that this meant the battle was drawing near its end. When buccaneers like them were at a loss for what to do, there was usually only one road they traveled...and unfortunately for the general, it was one that had already failed miserably against the human he was fighting.

He made one last, valiant effort to come out on top though, which Hannah could commend him for- it was a shame that his final slash had been all in vain, another blow the swashbuckler was able to avoid; hyper aware to them now, since he had been struck by one earlier. The match didn't last long after that. Septimus expertly disarmed the knight and backed him into a corner- leaving him weaponless, with no chance to retrieve his own prized halberd unless he wanted to suffer the consequences. A swashbuckler like Ulysses was far too fast to be beaten to the punch with the distance that now lay between them. Rooke could always attempt to overpower him and use brute strength to his advantage, but Hannah wasn't so sure he would, as Ulysses seemed to know where all of his weakest points were. It would be a mistake for sure, only allowing him more chances for painful, humiliating blows.

This time, when confronted with yielding or continuing the battle, Rooke chose to surrender. Not without a fair amount of aggravation in his voice, but at least he knew that this had turned into a losing battle he couldn't turn around, no matter what level of force he used. Ulysses had emerged victorious, over one of the Armada's most fearsome elites. She couldn't help but smirk again at the very idea, it was...definitely both comforting and gratifying on several levels; nice to see somebody considered 'lesser' able to take down a supposedly perfect, superior being in friendly combat. It only reassured her that living beings like them were capable of being just as good as the clockworks, no matter the latter's superiority complexes.

She watched Rooke gather up his weapons and lumber off, likely with a wounded ego. He would be just fine though, Hannah was certain he would bounce back to his usual self sooner rather than later and come to accept this fight eventually. For now, though she turned her attention to the victor of this match as he joined them.

"Impressive, Admiral. Especially using our own tactics yourself and against him...I wasn't aware you knew Triton's song."

While at any other point in time she would have found it hard to compliment Ulysses like this, he had at least started to behave better toward her. She was still upset over some parts of how he had fooled her...but not to the degree she refused to give him praise he had earned. It wouldn't do well to act too stubbornly with him anyway, considering the fact she had promised Kane she would treat him with the same respect she showed him. It was almost easier with Ulysses as well, or at least nicer, since she didn't feel the need to be terrified of him or bitterly thinking back to the past the entire time.

"Leviathan's call is a little better, but...that one is still powerful enough. I'm shocked Rooke did not catch on to that one...but I suppose he might not know how to utilize those spells, seeing as how he doesn't have much need for them with the way he's built."

She glanced briefly at the wound he had sustained as Cristobal treated it the best he could. That was going to leave a scar, but at least it was one Ulysses could say he had earned, that had a very fond memory of his victory against one of Kane's elites.

"So tell me, Admiral. Just how many times have you bested the Grand Marshall in a scrap like this?"

Her lips curved in amusement as she waited for him to answer, suspecting she would hear multiple times, which would only serve to make her that much more entertained with what she had just seen.

((Now we just need a drama llama to complete the atmosphere! XD and boring post with nothing much happening: if you need me to change anything, sister, feel free to tell me on Skype.))

"It does answer much of them,"Ulysses crossed his arms over his chest, his red eyes scrutinizing the hologram for several seconds before asking, "about how many men does he have? What force are we being pitted against?" A good leader, no matter in what field, always maps out what their group may face before leading them against it, for no lord goes into battle not knowing just how great of an army they are battling, right? Not only that, Atticus Mercilus is an extremely crafty figure capable of tricks only matched by the Armada admiral himself: if Septimus cannot see all the possible variables, there is no tell what the rogue may use.

Bishop turned to his lab table, picking up a rather hastily scribbled piece of paper that looked much like his lab notes. "13 pounder cannons and various other primitive antisiege equipment, 70 Skull Island trained Assassins who are loyal to Mercilus only, and about 40 pirate elites." Ulysses resisted the urge to laugh, for just how does Mercilus think he could hold a fortress with only so many soldiers? However, a second thought made its way into his mind: the rogue Assassin is no less of a military genius than himself, hence he would have known better than trying to hold a fort with a force only so large, so all those ones must be elites trained exclusively by Mercilus himself, and there are the pirate elites to worry about...

"Ulysses,"the admiral looked back at his mentor, arching a questioning eyebrow while Cristobal suggested, "remember the Trojan Horse? Once the Achaeans got inside the walls, the Trojans were rendered nothing more than meat for slaughter..." A spark of realization shot through Ulysses, bringing a laugh from the admiral's throat.

"I see where you are going, Mentor!"He said with a dark smile, "I see..." He craned his neck, muttering a thanks to Bishop before marching out to the docks, where the Interceptor was anchored. Boarding the ship with his fellow humans and clockwork officers, Septimus snapped off a command in Latin, his native language to his clockwork crew...
