APPEARANCE.
Little is known about Kestrel’s appearance, largely on account of how she choses to dress. The only thing that is for certain is her large, unnerving orange eyes. They are clearly visible despite her habit of wearing the skull headdress pulled down over her face like a mask, resulting in eerie, glowing eyes from the eye sockets. She is rarely seen without the skull on, leading many to speculate that she may in fact be an undead rat Witchdoctor. While she dressed in traditional Witchdoctor garb in her youth, she has since then moved onto a more conservative attire of the typical pirate-style clothing and coat, though her fondness for feathers leaves her with a bright red neck ruff that helps to conceal where her skull cannot. Physically, Kes is quite slender, bordering on the verge of bony, and has very slight figure to her. She is also quite short, and can often go by unnoticed.

PERSONALITY
Kestrel often feels out of place and uncomfortable in her own skin, which does little to help with communicating with others. She is perceived as strange and awkward much of the time, and regarded with suspicion due to her generally quiet and contemplative presence, often taken as scheming by those fooled by the rat skull. Kes is extremely selective with those allowed to be closest to her, and will rarely be the first to reach out. Those who do make it to her inner circle gain a fierce and defensive friend. She is inherently mistrustful of Monquistans and can be wary of many humans, with some exceptions.

BACKGROUND.
Kestrel is considered something of an enigma. She is extremely secretive and does not trust easily, so there is not much known about her. What is known is that she was the daughter of a pirate and a Darkmoor merchant, both of whom perished at an early age in Perdition’s Tempest. Whereabouts unknown for many years, the child was presumed dead as well until she turned up in Scrimshaw under the guardianship of the local seamstress. It is unclear whether or not her perchance for dark magic was inherent or brought upon by the supposed curse of the Grim Reaver, but she was discovered to have a bit of a flair for it, often summoning ghostly or skeletal companions while avoiding the living. After she became of age and learned about her parents’ demise, Kestrel has become very much invested in pursuing the Grim Reaver, though she notably lacks knowledge or the skills to command a ship.

*Desmodus
A species of anthropomorphic bat people who originally hail from Darkmoor. The Orne clan are a combination of vampire and pallid bat aesthetics, with split lower lip and ribbed ears.
