Latin Dictionary Empty Latin Dictionary

Post by Ulysses Septimus Mon Mar 24, 2014 10:34 pm

Alright, now let me explain: in my story's canon, the clockworks have a tendency to speak Latin, as do the Valencian Assassin Order and several of my other ocs since most of their names came from this language. Thus I tend to pop in a Latin word or phrase here and there.

To help keep everyone sane, I organized this little dictionary of terms that I will use in both story (which for now is not yet posted here, but is on my deviantart page [under Crafty-Ulysses]) and rp, which would update periodically.

Anyhow, here it is, feel free to use those terms and phrases in your rps if you want.

 Very Happy

Pronunciations

C, like the c in "centurion" is pronounced with a hard 'k', like in the English word "card"

A, in words such as "gloriam" is not, A like how the Alphabet song sings it, rather it has a "ah" sound instead.

Ae, like in "publicae" is read as "aye" instead of "a"

The 'u' is pronounced as 'oo' like in "ooze"

V sounds like "wuh" so a word like 'servus' would be "seh-woos"

I is pronounced as 'e', like in "eel"

The ending "-ter", like in "mater" is not "tur", rather, it is "te-air"

So a name like "Ulysses" would be sound like "ooly-see-oos"
"Servus Decimus" would be "seh-woos deck-e-moos"
